WannaBees at the Quilt Show

Yesterday the WannaBees went to the Bulloch Hall Quilt Show.  We decided to change things up by going out for breakfast instead of lunch, so we met at Thumbs Up Diner.  It was delicious!

The quilt show was wonderful, as always.  My favorite part, of course, is seeing quilts made by people I know.   Ben had entered three quilts, including this one below which he called Seussical Flower.  It was a sample for a class he teaches with Derwent Inktense Watersoluble Ink Pencils.  You cannot imagine the ribbing we gave him for coloring that checkerboard background when it could have been pieced in a fraction of the time!

This beauty was made by one of our former guild presidents, Meg Latimer.  I love the movement and the illusion of curves in quilts like this.  It was quilted by Betty Alonsious.

This quilt by Nancy French was bittersweet.  It is called Roots and Wings; in the description, she writes that the Mariner's Compass and the lighthouse are to guide her children "back to their roots no matter how far away they fly."  [sob] The pattern is an adaptation of one by Wendy Matheson and was quilted by Cathy McDonald.

  

I always love seeing what quilt will appear on this little antique doll bed.  This is another Storm at Sea quilt, this one from a kit by Kate Flynn Nichols.  This quilt was made by Ellen Lott. 

This quilt, made by Brenda Shelby and quilted by Regina Carter, also created the illusion of curves.  It was hanging right by the front door, and caught my eye immediately.  I love the design and the use of color.

This fantastic piece called Serengeti at Twilight hung in the upstairs hall.  It was made by Leona Harden.  Click to zoom in and see the amazing quilting with that orange thread.  Truly a work of art!

This quilt was amazing, and no picture could do it justice!  The applique and embellishment on it is breathtaking.  It was made by Donna Harlow from the Noel pattern by Verna Mosquera.  Bill Roberts did the fabulous custom quilting. 

All in all it was a lovely day with my quilty friends.  I'm seeing a trend in the quilts I liked best, and will have to do some more experimenting with some of these blocks.
